It's been a few days since I blogged. I got an email today from Mrs. Dusek. Thank you for sending the email, Mrs. Dusek. Mrs. Dusek told me that the class went to the orchestra hall to see Nutcracker. And actually, we have been listening to that music here. My mom brought a CD with Christmas music and that is on the CD!
My mom checked the Dusek Digest to see what was going on at Wildwood Elementary, and she saw that you were talking about holidays around the world. I asked Mr. Hien about Christmas here in Vietnam. I learned that they have Christmas here but not many people celebrate it. Only the Christian people here celebrate it. The people here who celebrate Christmas celebrate on December 24th. I am seeing Christmas decorations at many places here, but we haven't been at people's houses to see if they have Christmas decorations.
Our friend, Mr. Hien, said that the biggest holiday in Vietnam is Tet. It's new year celebration and it is in the winter (but not January 1st). It lasts one week and everyone turns one year older at Tet, because they don't celebrate regular birthdays in Vietnam. I'll try to learn more about Tet and I will report more facts back to you.
Goodbye!
Thomas
p.s. For a souvenir, I got a Chinese lantern last month here in Vietnam. It is made out of silk and it is red. I'm going to hang it up in my room.

Hi Thomas!
Thanks so much for writing.
Did you know that I am a teacher? I teach high school students about World History. I would love to hear more from you about the Tet holiday so I can share that with my students.
Let us know if you see any houses decorated for Christmas!
Lots of love,

Thomas
Boy you are going to have a lot to tell your class whenever you get back to school!
grandma loves to hear from you and hear about what you think of the different things you are seeing.
Grandad and I are starting to tear out the wall to the little bathroom in the family room today and we are going to make a new bathroom with a sink and new shower. We are also going to have the door slide into the wall like uncle Ben has in his house. Won't that be neat?
Look for more Christmas everyday and I am still praying that you will be home for Christmas. I love you soooooooo Much!!!!!!!! Give your family a hug from me please.
Love and blessings!
Thomas,
What a bummer it would be to not get to celebrate your own special day for your birthday! I'm glad we don't do that in America!
The silk lantern that you bought for your room sounds really neat. I'm sure it will be neat to hang in your room. It will help bring back special memories of Vietnam.
You have a very special family, Thomas. I'm sure every day you feel happy to be part of your family. Keep having fun and I'll talk to you soon!
Love,
Aunt Cindy
Hi Thomas,
Wow, you sure did learn a lot about the different holidays in Vietnam. Mr. Hien is a great resource for all that stuff that is great that you asked him for the information.
Well, nothing is really that new here. I got all settled at home and now am back at work. I have been showing a lot of people my pictures and it has been fun reminiscing. I really do miss being there with you guys.
It is cold here so you aren't missing much.
Take care,
Auntie Heather
